Healthcare in Canada: education, registration and immigration

Three connected decisions need three separate checks. Use this framework before committing to a course.

Education: does the program fit your goal?

Compare entry requirements, course content, total costs and your own academic background using the school's current information. Ask what the qualification is designed to prepare you for and what it does not provide.

Registration: check the relevant regulator

Find the professional regulator for the occupation and province you intend to work in. Ask how your existing education will be assessed and what further steps may be needed. Admission to a course and registration to practise are separate decisions.

Immigration: review your own circumstances

Review the immigration implications of the program, your current status and your longer-term plans against current official rules. Keep a list of questions for the school, regulator and immigration consultant so that responsibilities are clear.
